Included in the course are pre and post course learning measures. These learning measures are also referred to as competency measures and have long been used to evaluate content knowledge, knowledge application, coding ability and interviewing skills related to the administration of the ASI. Post course learning measures are currently administered upon completion of the course, and 30 days post course completion. Users are expected to achieve a passing score of 70 on the learning measures, otherwise they will not receive a certificate of completion and CEU’s.
The Post Course Learning or Competency Measures currently included in the ASI E-Course are designed to measure;
- Content Knowledge regarding the clinical utility of the tool
- Coding Conventions (Knowledge Application and Coding Ability)
- Interviewer Severity Ratings (Knowledge Application and Rating)
Learning / Competency Measures 1 – 3 contain questions and multiple-choice responses. The user selects a response, if it is incorrect s/he immediately receives audio performance feedback indicating that it is incorrect, and then identifies the correct response and explains why.
There are three other competency measures that we have used as part of a comprehensive quality assurance program, however, due to the time and cost involved in their administration and review are not routinely included in the e-course. The additional competency measures are available for purchase and described below.
Learning / Competency Measure #4.
This learning / competency measure, also evaluates Knowledge Application and Coding Ability. A user watches a videotaped ASI interview, the viewer uses a blank ASI instrument to code all sections of the ASI. The recorded answers are entered into a data collection tool and scored.
Learning / Competency Measure #5.
This learning / competency measure evaluates Knowledge Application, Coding Ability and Interviewing Skills. It involves an individualized quality assurance audit consisting of a simulated interview designed to measure the proper use of the ASI. It can be conducted using videoconferencing and if necessary, can be done on the phone as well. Upon completion of this measure the user receives performance feedback / coaching regarding their interviewing skills and coding ability. Time to complete including performance feedback approximately 2 hours. Performance feedback / coaching session is approximately an hour. The above measure has been modified to only include a few sections of the interview e.g., Medical, AOD, and Psychiatric.
Learning / Competency Measure #6.
This learning / competency measure evaluates Knowledge Application, Coding Ability and Interviewing Skills. For this measure the user audiotapes or videotapes an interview that they have conducted. The send a copy of the interview and the completed paper version of the ASI for review, scoring and performance feedback. Afterwards, a video conference is scheduled to provide performance feedback and coaching regarding their interviewing skills and coding ability. Time to complete varies based on the length of the interview submitted. Performance feedback / coaching session is approximately an hour.
